It's Not Sunday

    It's Not Sunday

My god, when I know him,
    will speak pig latin
    and say his own name
He will not do parlor tricks
    or supernatural manifestations
to prove what depends on perception
    and he won't sell salvation
He will not embarrass me in public
with bad music or bad logic
    or threaten damnation
He will not recite Ginsberg or Kerouac
or say bad words to get my attention

My god will not have a phone number
    and it won't be 911
He will not perform miracles on demand
    when I don't feel like
    taking out the garbage
    He will not negotiate trust
    as a prerequisite to love
My god, when I know him,
    will be so human
    that he doesn't know that
he is his own best idea
My god, when I know him,
will speak with a Filipino accent
    and drink Barako and look
just like the face of love
    I already know
