Perhaps the most famous song is Cat The Siamese Cat Song recorded by Peggy Lee. The song is from the Walt Disney Classic 1955 "Lady and the Tramp" an animated film about a classy Cocker Spaniel named Lady who falls for Tramp a gang of a half-breed. But the song is about two arrogant cats, Si and Am, which have given Siamese cats a bad name ever since.
The Siamese Cat Song was written by Lee along with Sonny Burke and in recent years also has been recorded by Freddie and The Dreamers, Mitch Miller, Dave Stewart and Barbara Gaskin, Haylie Duff, and Bobby McFerrin. "We are Siamese if we are Siamese, if not please. "
Both turtles and Petula Clark entered the recording studios to make very different versions of the cat in the window, a song that compares a cat trying to get out of a window with the singer wants to fly. "There is a cat in the window, and he likes all the birds going to, he'd love to fly out the window go where the wind goes, so would I. "
Who can forget the Muppets recording of The Cat Came Back, a song about a kitten that I found its way back no matter how far it has taken from his home. "But the cat came back, not stay away, she was sitting on the porch the next day."
A 1,950 people were flooding into record stores and ask Tawt I Taw a State Puddy. Mel Blanc recorded the song, written by Alan Livingston, Billy May and Warren Foster, about the cartoon cat and Canaries duo Sylvester and Tweety. "I Puddy tawt TAW a tattoo tingles up on me, I got a tattoo TAW Puddy as clear as could be. "
The Rooftop Singers track their number one 1963 Walk Right In, with Tom Cat a song about "ring-Tom 'that liked to "round blued City," "And when you quit all other cats in the neighborhood begin to shout." Fast forward to 1981 and Stray Cats record a song with a different but musically very similar theme, the rockabilly Stray Cat Strut. "mountain cat strut, I'm for women cat, a feline Casanova, hey man, where is, get a shoe thrown at me a middle aged man, my dinner in a garbage can. "
Norma was apparently Tanega a cat which he called "dog" and liked it
cat for walks, hence their successful 1966 Walking My Cat Named Dog, which appears to be from your experience real life riding around town with her pet feline.
Most songs though that include the word cat in the tile, are not really about cats at all. A great example is the song well, cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin. No cats make an appearance in this song but the lyrics contain a very chilling message each parent should pay attention too.
Bent Fabric, real name Bent Fabricius-Bjerre, had a time in 1962 with Alley Cat, but this was a instrumental recording so it's not a song about cats. Instrumental too was Aaron Copeland's of cat and mouse.
Cat People (Turn off the heat) by David Bowie was recorded for 1982 film remake of Cat People. Very dark and menacing feel to the song, but the words have no relation to cats.
The cat in the Cat dragged In, recorded by Mud was actually a girl, as was the cat appears on the streets of the Rolling Stones Cat Blues, this time with very sharp claws.
They call the Cat, by Elton John in question and not about cats! Neither is Honky Cat, another Elton song, that one is about a country boy moving to live life in the city.
Three Cool Cats, is a song that was recorded by The Coasters in 1958 and recorded by The Beatles in 1962 (but not published until 1995.) Of course, this song is not about cats, but about three teenage boys and three teenage girls. The Beatles also recorded Little Willie John's Leave My Kitten Alone is not surprising to find that the song is not a kitten.
U2 recorded a song titled An Cat Dubh, which apparently means The Black Cat in gaƩlico, no cat in the song though, black or otherwise.
No cats in the Year of the Cat Al Stewart, Cat Scratch Fever by Ted Nugent, The Lovecats by The Cure or Cool for Cats by Squeeze. Who can say what the cat is the Bob Dylan Pou is it?
There must be a large number of other songs that have the words cat or cats, in the title, but are actually about our feline friends. No doubt there are more songs that are about cats than those listed on this page, but unfortunately these songs seem few and far between.
But wait. . . there was no music scene all about cats. Cats, the musical
Andrew Lloyd Webber, was shown for the first time in London, England in 1981. On the basis of T.
S. Eliot 's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats the show features song after song around. . . Old Gumbie, Grizabella, Mungojerrie And Rumpelteazer, Skimbleshanks, Old Deuteronomy, Gus, Macavity and Mr. Mistoffelees. All these characters are, of course. . . Cats.
