How to break Bad Habits permanently?
Eating well, exercising and not spending are fine and well. But my efforts tend to only last a few days before returning to the old destructive habits. How can I channel my stress into more productive outlets than sitting on my ass eating trash and buy things they do not need with money we do not have? TIA!
Yes exactly, once the noise fades away, we fall back doing what we always do. If you can not generate enough internal determination to stay the course, you could try to shake the system. What shocks is probably different from me, do volunteer work exposes me to the disadvantaged, which is usually good I broke back online. I've also found reading (or viewing documents) on the extreme poverty experienced by other people – good to protect myself away from overspending. Maybe try to list the consequences of not eating well, exercising, etc more detail you put into the list, more will have to take when you feel tempted back to the old habit. However, I think that sometimes when I slide in bad habits is not a conscious choice, is a little chance. The only thing I found to work in this case is to identify the times where I have a slip and the pain associated with these images. For example, my mother used to always have candy in a dish on his bench, and when I had seen that automatically start to eat. So this identified, and the image associated with pain, I brought to mind the image and then cover images of myself being overweight, etc. Then next time I visited my mother, just before my hand hit the plate, my action was interrupted by thoughts of disgust, which were stronger then my craving for sweets.
